Frequently Asked Questions
How do I join the Residency?
After an initial conversation with a member of our team, and if your project aligns with our thesis, you'll be invited to meet the OSS partners (Product, Tech, HR, Sales, and Finance partners).
We encourage you to be open about the challenges or pain points you're facing in developing your project, and to share them with us. It's an opportunity for both of us to test what a future collaboration could look like.
We know your time is valuable, and we make our decisions within a few days. If, after the Partner meeting, we both believe that working together can lead to success, we'll invite you to join the studio for at least three months, with an interim check-in after three weeks to confirm the collaboration is on track.
What happens once I join the Residency?
Once you’re accepted into the Residency, you get your own space in the studio.
You'll start with an onboarding to meet the OSS teams, as well as the other founders building alongside you.
Your first week is then dedicated to an assessment: together, we’ll set the milestones we’ll work toward during your Residency, and we allocate the OSS resources that best match your needs across Product, Tech, HR, Sales, and Finance.
From there, for at least three months, we’ll collaborate closely. Along the way, we hold what we call gate meetings, checkpoints where key decisions are made and tracked as the project moves forward.
What support will I have access to?
The full OSS team, across every dimension of building a company: product, tech, GTM and revenue, fundraising, org design and recruitment.
The support is operational, not advisory. In your first week, you’ll set the milestones for your Residency with us, and we’ll allocate the OSS resources that match them across product, tech, HR, sales and finance. From there, the teams work inside your build cycle, on your live problems.
OSS has co-founded 22+ companies in industrial software since 2019. The build process behind these successes is divided into stages, each stage closing with a gate meeting where key decisions get made and tracked. During the Residency you run that process on your own company, with the people who wrote it.
Why do I have to be in the studio?
Proximity is what makes the Residency work. You and your founding team (and your first employees if you already have a team) are hosted in the OSS office full time for the duration of the Residency, at no cost to you.
The Residency exists to compress months of trial and error into weeks, and that compression happens best in high-intensity, in-person sessions: ICP workshops, factory tours, product reviews, gate meetings, pitch and fundraising coaching…
Working alongside our team and other studio founders means support is available when you need it, and you can ask your questions as they come up.
How long does the Residency last?
The Residency is an initial three-month commitment, with an intermediate milestone after three weeks. This checkpoint is there for both sides: you have seen enough of the studio and we have seen enough of your business to decide if we want to work together.
The twelve weeks are structured around the milestones you set in week one. At the end of your Residency, if those milestones are reached, our investment arm will consider leading your pre-seed round.
Our support continues as you scale. Post-Residency, we stay involved just like we do with every company we have built: in the trenches when you need us and at your board, through your Seed, your Series A and beyond.
What is the investment process?
Joining the Residency does not unlock automatic funding. We've built in intermediate milestones along the way, so that both you and we can confirm the collaboration is working before moving forward.
If, after 3 weeks in the Residency, the collaboration is proving fruitful for both sides, we'll decide to invest €50k with a BSA (in exchange for 1% of your startup’s equity).
After at least 3 months in the studio and once the milestones we've set together have been reached, you will allow us to lead (or co-lead) your pre-seed round, typically with a ticket of €500k to €1M.
Is the Residency a good fit for me?
The Residency is likely a fit if you recognize yourself in the following:
- Your project is an early-stage, deeply verticalized software for the world of operations; manufacturing, construction, supply chain, and the like.
- You're not aiming small. Instead, you’re building toward something bigger than an incremental improvement: a product that can genuinely transform your industry.
- Your founding team is complementary, coachable, collaborative, hungry to learn, and ready to challenge its views and priors.
Can I talk to founders who’ve been through the Residency?
Yes! Ask and we'll do the introductions.
